Aggron Tiering 306 Aggron

Typing: Steel / Rock

Stats:
HP - 70
Atk - 110
Def - 180
SpA - 60
SpD - 60
Speed - 50

Abilit(ies):
Sturdy: OHKO Moves will fail.
Rock Head: Recoil moves deal no recoil damage.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, here will will discuss Aggron.

--Weaknesses/Resistances--
Aggron was nice and unique back in RSE. DPPt came around with Bastidon and pushed Aggron out of the spotlight. Aggron does have unique typing though, giving it multiple resistances.

0.5x: Ice, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon Dark
0.25x: Normal, Flying

Sadly, Aggron has 2 4x weaknesses (and 1 2x.)

2x: Water
4x: Fighting, Ground

--Ability(ies)--

Aggron has 2 great abilities. Sturdy is good, but since OHKO Clause is usually in play, that is ineffective.
Rock Head blocks all recoil. Double Edge is the only recoil move it gets, but it's physical, so it works nicely in any set Smile.

--STAB Moves--
Here are the quality STAB moves of Aggron. Since it's main bias is Physical, I'll only post the Physical moves.

- Iron Tail
- Metal Burst
- Stone Edge
- Rock Slide
- Iron Head

Iron Tail is good for Power and defense lowering, but bad accuracy. Metal Burst is the Steel equivelant of Counter. Stone Edge for flinching. Rock Slide for better Accuracy. Iron Head for 120 BP and a decent hit.

Access to Stealth Rock, Magnet Rise, Earthquake, and Superpower are also good.

--Stats--
HP - 70
Atk - 110
Def - 180
SpA - 60
SpD - 60
Speed - 50

Amazing Defense, Above Average Attack, Poor Speed, and Poor HP makes Aggron a horrible canidate for sweeping.

Aggron has lots of potential with its decent stats and quirky movepool. Also, with it being a rock type, it benefits from a 50% increase in its special defence during sandstorm. Also, Metal Burst can be useful.

Having said that, its 2 4x weaknesses let it down a lot and this is what reduces it from the placing it would have without those weaknesses... In OU we all know to well the prevailance of the common Earthquake in addition to all those fighting moves (including Close Combat of the 4th gen). Further, without sandstorm support, most special hits are going to KO since its special defence is poor-average at best.

It lacks the speed to make use of its 110 base attack... It rarely gets time to use rock polish too... Its low speed can be a benefit with Metal Burst but this is about the benefit of its terrible speed stat.

With its 110 base attack, Aggron definately over-powers the pokemon you'd expect to see in the NU tier, however once you place it in OU or BL you start to see its weak points since many pokemon in these tiers can capitalise on Aggron's poor speed and horrifying weaknesses. Therefore, I think Aggron is best suited in the UU tier where it is powerful enough to be some form of threat yet can still be countered.

This is not entirely true. Metal Burst works on damage taken from Physical and/or special moves... It is more of a combination of Counter and Mirror Coat... It is worth noting that Aggron must be slower than the attacking pokemon for Metal Burst to work. Otherwise the move will fail.
